How Far Do You Need to Run for Good Health?

While running is one of the best all-round exercises, it is not everyone’s favorite way of staying fit. Well, even if you struggle to get more than a couple of kilometers at a time, you may still be getting more health benefits than you realize. Recent research shows that jogging a combined total of 8-10km (5-6 miles) a week is all you need.

According to the research, people who run 8-10km per week less than 51 total minutes during one or two runs gave themselves a reduced risk of some cancers, stroke, osteoarthritis, high blood pressure and high cholesterol compared to people who ran a shorter weekly distance or not at all.

The study also showed that the effect of running even 8-10km a week resulted in the same level of reduced risk of cardiovascular mortality and death from any cause as in joggers who ran far greater distances every week.

However, remember that if you’re running to lose weight, then the more km you run, the more calories you burn, and the more weight you lose.

So, going back to the question: How far do you need to run for good health? It seems that running for around 25-30 minutes, twice a week, for a total distance of 8-10km is the easiest way to boost your health.
