So what if you want the spirituality, healing properties, deep breathing and flexibility of Yoga but you also want to work those core abdominal and back muscles, too? Well, there’s no reason to stop you combining Yoga and Pilates. Many people do.
Start with some Yoga stretches before moving on to Pilates core muscle exercises. You can use some Pilates machine work to help improve your Yoga poses. Another way to combine the best of both is to try meditating while doing Pilates, or try doing some Pilates power breathing techniques while doing Yoga.
So if you have one of the specific goals mentioned at the start of this article, then you may want to choose either Yoga OR Pilates. But if you want to get fitter and stronger while also learning to deal with stress better, then consider choosing Yoga AND Pilates.
